The earliest signs of beet cultivation dates back to 4,000 years ago in the Mediterranean region. It’s been known as an aphrodisiac for thousands of years, and they have an array of other health benefits. Beets consist of organic compounds, vitamins and minerals such as carotenoids, lutein/zeaxanthin, glycine, betaine, dietary fiber, vitamin C, magnesium, iron, copper, phosphorus and anthocyanins (a type of flavonoid). They are low in calories, contain no cholesterol and have the highest amount of sugar out of any vegetable.

Testosterone is the main sex hormone produced by men (women produce testosterone as well, but in much smaller amounts). It increases during puberty, reaching its peak between the ages of 20-30, and starts declining after 30.  Testosterone levels vary throughout the day; the highest being in the morning and the lowest being at night. Men with higher testosterone levels are 45 percent less likely to have high blood pressure and 72 percent less likely to have a heart attack.
