Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/30/2016 to Exercise

Recovery is an important aspect for anyone that exercises, whether you’re a runner, a yogi, a body builder or someone that hits the gym on a regular basis. Recovery is defined as the time that is required to repair the damage that’s been done to body caused by training, competition or another form of exercise.

Vitamins, Minerals & Nutritional Deficiencies

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/28/2016 to Vitamins, Herbs, and Minerals

We should always resort to food as our main source of vitamins and minerals, but in the modern American diet, it can be difficult to meet the daily requirements when it comes to vitamin and mineral consumption. Vitamins play a vital role in every function of the body. They are essential for cell function, growth and development. Poor vitamin intake creates the perfect environment for disease to thrive, and it can affect vital functions in the body.  If we are lacking in our vitamin intake, our bodies will develop a nutritional deficiency which can be detrimental to our health.

It’s possible that you may have a nutritional deficiency without knowing so. 90 percent of Americans are deficient in potassium; 80 percent do not get enough vitamin E, and 70 percent do not consume enough calcium.

Friday's Feature - Castor Oil

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/25/2016 to Natural Remedies

Aside from my almond oil purchase, I also bought some castor oil. Similar to almond oil, there are many uses for castor oil, such as promoting healthy bowels, moisturizer for the face and hair, relieves sore muscles, repairs split ends, etc.

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/18/2016 to Natural Remedies

I recently purchased a bottle of almond oil by Now Solutions. I have seen it sitting on the shelf passing by a few times, and I was curious to learn the benefits of using it. I was pleased with my discovery; almond oil is very nourishing for the skin, hair and overall health.

YouFit - Total Sculpt

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/16/2016 to Exercise

My boyfriend and I decided to change gyms this past Saturday. We have been at Planet Fitness for about a year now, and we agreed to try the You Fit off Fowler, mainly because I wanted to start taking classes (which Planet Fitness does not offer).

Last night, we took a Total Sculpt class, which lasted an hour but felt like two. Our instructor Tani turned on some hip-hop and got right down to business. We started warming up with some cardio, and the whole hour we incorporated light weights, an aerobic stepper, a mat, heavy weights and our body weight.

VDC Goes to So Fresh

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/14/2016 to Diet and Nutrition

While running errands Saturday, I decided to grab some lunch at So Fresh. So Fresh is a local restaurant in the Tampa area, and it’s a healthier alternative to fast food; all of their dishes are packed with nutrition and fresh ingredients.  You can even customize your dish if you don’t want anything on their menu. They have salads, wraps and bowls. I decided to create my own bowl...

I recently bought Garden of Life’s Raw Energizer, and I have been incorporating it into my smoothies every morning.

Vinyasa Flow

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/10/2016 to Exercise

Last night, Marianne and I participated in a Vinyasa Flow at Hanaq-Prana Yoda Studio. As students trickled into class, Lorena gave a warm welcome to each of us. She asked what we wanted to work on today (for me it was my lower back) and incorporated that into our flow. She stated that vinyasa is full of ups and downs, and to ride the wave of whatever we were feeling that day.

As a Peruvian, I believe in the powerful benefits of the maca, and I’ve been binge eating it since I was a little girl.
