February is all about heart health, so I have come up with a list of heart-pumping exercises that keep your cardiovascular system in tip-top shape.

How to Stay Fit- from Morning to Evening

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 1/23/2018 to Exercise

Prioritizing our health tends to take a backseat in today’s society. In a nation that runs on junk food, stress, and sedentary jobs, staying fit can be a challenge for most people.

When we start and end our day with our health in mind, our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing bring us into balance, allowing us to feel centered, well-rested, calm, and strong. Below are some tips on how to stay healthy through both activity and rest.

When is the best time to work out?

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 1/9/2018 to Exercise

Do you prefer your sweat session in the a.m. or in the evenings? Now that many of us are back in the gym, it’s important to find the right time that works best for you. I personally prefer working out in the mornings so I have my evenings free, but I also like to sleep in and stay active after work, especially since I’m at my desk all day.

Whether you are an early bird or night owl, here are the advantages to both:

How to Exercise on a Budget

Posted by Ricky Seda on 8/31/2017 to Exercise

You hear the ads on the radio and television. You see the flyers in parking lots, and get them in the mail. You know the ones I am talking about-the ads telling you to join the gym. They entice you with the deals (one month free, no down payment, bring a guest privileges) and hook you with the classes (Zumba, cycling, personal training) or amenities (indoor pool, saunas, basketball courts, smoothie bar). It all sounds so great until you realize it is yet another monthly bill you can’t afford. The truth is, gym memberships are often more of a splurge than a necessity. In fact, exercise can actually be one the most economical things we can do. So, here are some money saving tips designed to keep your wallet fat while you get fit.

Clean BCAA by Clean Machine

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 6/6/2017 to Exercise

I have recently just started taking BCAAs, and boy have I been missing out! I have always been active, but I’ve never really been into sports supplements until I started working for Vitamin Discount Center.

BCAAs are branched-chain amino acids—Leucine, isoleucine, valine—that promote muscle recovery/repair, reduce muscle soreness, and boost endurance. BCAAs are ideal for strength and interval training, but they may also fuel your cardio regimen too...

My Yoga Teacher Training Journey: Part 3

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 5/24/2017 to Exercise

Oh my, where to begin? I have grown so much in the past two months.  I’ve been getting more comfortable with my postures, and we’ve been discovering the many uses of yoga props. Our class has been learning the breakdown of each asana (posture), the benefits and contraindications....

Goat Yoga

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 5/19/2017 to Exercise

Two Saturdays ago, I took a goat yoga class with my boyfriend and old co-worker, Marianne at Hat Trick Ranch. I first heard about goat yoga on Facebook, from a farm in Oregon. It looked like something I’d love to try, but Oregon was slightly out of my reach, and there was a huge wait list.

When I found out there was goat yoga near my town, I knew I had to sign up right away!

My Yoga Teacher Training Journey: Part 2

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/31/2017 to Exercise

This past weekend, I had my first long weekend of yoga. 22 hours to be exact. This weekend was filled with meditation, breathing exercises, sun salutations, different styles of yoga, Indian Philosophy, Ayurveda, and numerous terminology used for describing energies, sheaths, and other forces both within and outside of the body...

My Yoga Teacher Training Journey: Part 1

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 2/28/2017 to Exercise

Around November or so, I was going through a rough patch. I’ve been feeling lost and unfulfilled for quite some time, and my mind was tangled in thoughts that kept reaching dead ends. All of my friends were pursuing their dreams and chasing their passions…but where was mine? What was my passion, and what was my purpose in life? I was in desperate need of guidance, of any sign that would set me on the right path.

Stay Fit this Valentine’s Day with Active Date Ideas

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 2/13/2017 to Exercise

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love, whether you celebrate with your significant other, your friends, your family or your dog. Many of us spend this holiday either out on the town or curled up on our couch watching Netflix.  Although the typical dinner and movie (or quiet night in) is nice, why not try something new for a change?

Camp Gladiator

My co-worker Marianne attends Camp Gladiator, a 60 minute group fitness boot camp that is designed to test endurance, strength, agility, stamina, and speed. Since she’s an active member, she was able to give the gift of health for the holiday season, and offered me one free month of CG.

Just Keep Swimming

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 7/13/2016 to Exercise

There’s nothing more refreshing then dipping in the pool on a hot summer day. As kids, there was nothing happier than spending time in the pool with my friends and siblings during summer break.  As soon as our bodies made contact with the water, we’d transform into mermaids, setting out on our next adventure. We also played pool basketball and volleyball, and did handstands and flips until our hands were pruney and our parents bribed us with popsicles to come inside...

YouFit - Kickboxing

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 6/1/2016 to Exercise

I’ve been debating on taking the kickboxing class at YouFit for a while now, and I finally agreed to go on Tuesday night. It takes place right before the Total Sculpt class, so some of the students attend both classes back to back (it’s also the same instructor)...

The class was different from the typical yoga class....

Sports Recovery

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/30/2016 to Exercise

Recovery is an important aspect for anyone that exercises, whether you’re a runner, a yogi, a body builder or someone that hits the gym on a regular basis. Recovery is defined as the time that is required to repair the damage that’s been done to body caused by training, competition or another form of exercise.

YouFit - Total Sculpt

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/16/2016 to Exercise

My boyfriend and I decided to change gyms this past Saturday. We have been at Planet Fitness for about a year now, and we agreed to try the You Fit off Fowler, mainly because I wanted to start taking classes (which Planet Fitness does not offer).

Last night, we took a Total Sculpt class, which lasted an hour but felt like two. Our instructor Tani turned on some hip-hop and got right down to business. We started warming up with some cardio, and the whole hour we incorporated light weights, an aerobic stepper, a mat, heavy weights and our body weight.

Vinyasa Flow

Posted by Kristen Baureis on 3/10/2016 to Exercise

Last night, Marianne and I participated in a Vinyasa Flow at Hanaq-Prana Yoda Studio. As students trickled into class, Lorena gave a warm welcome to each of us. She asked what we wanted to work on today (for me it was my lower back) and incorporated that into our flow. She stated that vinyasa is full of ups and downs, and to ride the wave of whatever we were feeling that day.
