Growing up, I believed there was only healthy food and junk food. I thought all fruits and vegetables came straight from the earth- natural and pure. I wasn’t aware of processed and artificial ingredients, but I knew junk food was packed with sugar and salt. Years later I came to the realization that not all food is treated equally, by any means. I remember reading an “organic” label and thinking, isn’t food already organic? If it’s not, then what is it? What’s happening to our food?

The holiday season is a time to eat, drink and be merry, however these festivities may be tricky if we are trying to be mindful of what we are putting in our bodies.  We tend to overindulge on appetizers, alcoholic beverages, turkey and ham, multiple side dishes, and desserts. I am guilty of overeating as well, although I try my best to control my portion size. There’s just so much food!
