Bee pollen is considered one of nature’s most nourishing foods. It contains an assortment of amino acids and trace vitamins and minerals such as B-complex and folic acid. It’s also 40 percent protein, which is more protein than any other animal source of equal weight.
Pollen derives from the male seed of flowers. Bees collect the pollen from plant anthers, and place it in corbiculae, mixing the pollen with the secretion from nectar. Once collected, it’s taken to the hive where it’s packed in honeycomb cells. The surface of the pollen is then covered with honey and wax, also known as “bee bread”. The bee bread goes through anaerobic fermentation and is preserved by the lactic acid. This is the primary source of protein for the bee colony.
Benefits of bee pollen include:
- improving skin complexion
- boosting metabolism
- increasing strength and endurance
- protecting the immune system
